Following are the ways to hire workers through our program and the Frequently asked questions: The employer may call ahead or request a worker in person: Our phone number is (323) 223-2120 or you can send us an e-mail to request more information CYPRESSPARK@IDEPSCA.ORG Hours of Operation
Can I hire a domestic worker?
What if I want a specific worker?
Do the workers go to my work site? Coordinators suggest that the initial meeting and negotiation take place at the Cypress Park Day Laborer Site which has a bilingual coordinator who can assist. After the initial hiring you may talk with the worker about the method of transportation to the work site. How do I pay a worker? The negotiations are between the employer and the employee. Some workers charge more depending on their skills and experience. It is best to negotiate the rate before initiating a job, we have bi-lingual coordinators that will be happy to assist you. Does IDEPSCA charge for its services? IDEPSCA's Cypress Park Day Laborer Site provides a free service by providing an organized location where workers and employers can meet. A LITTLE NOTE OF COURTESY Needless to say Day Laborers are hard working individuals who deserve respect. Workers should be paid promptly and be provided with the necessary tools and specific instructions to do the job right. Our workers have a variety of skills, the following are some but not all the types of jobs/skills found in the Cypress Park Community Job Center: |
SERVICES TO DAY LABORERS

OUR RE-CURRENT EVENTS
Our Thanksgiving Celebration is a day where community members come together to bring joy to the day laborer community. In 2006 the Thanksgiving Celebration took place on November 21. Thanks to St. Peters Italian Church we were able to serve a good meal plus give day laborers a basket of food plus an uncooked turkey. We brought a bit of hope and smiles to over 250 day laborers from all of IDEPSCA's worker centers and their families, and we shared this day with community members who assisted the celebration. For many workers Christmas is a sad day away from their families. Our commitment to the workers is also to share with them these special occasions. In 2006 Our Christmas Celebration took place on December 23. Once again, St. Peter Italian Church showed their support by donating toys for the workers’ children as well as other children from the community. With the help of other in-kind donations that we received on this day we were able to have a meal for the day laborers and their families. Everything turned out very good, the food was very delicious and the workers were very helpful.
TESTIMONIES FROM WORKERS
Julian Gastelum said, “During my presence in this center I believe this has been a center that has taught me how the life here in the US is. I have been able to obtain 2 good permanent jobs here, but unfortunately I was hurt in the last one and was put into disability. The center has helped me all the way, and what I mean all the way I mean with food, shelter, clothing, legal etc. after I got hurt.” Felix Gildo Jr. said, “I got to this center a couple of months after its opening, and during the time I have been here, I have gained many good employers, and thanks to the ID that the center provided me I was able to obtain my first bank account her in the US. All I have to say is that this center brings many opportunities to the workers and the community, you just have to learn how to ask for them.” Francisco Brisuela said, “I was the first day laborer to bring up the services of hauling and deliveries to this center, and it has helped me to be more productive with employment in which I have been able to take other workers with me. This center has provided me with many opportunities of work as well as great services.”
